Driver Still on the Loose After Passenger Found on Side of Road in Center Township

It’s that time of year when more people are drinking and driving in Indiana. The police arrived at a reported accident scene early this past Sunday morning at about 5:45 am. They found a man lying on the side of the road next to a silver sedan. The driver was nowhere to be found.

The car was involved in a single-car accident – at least there were no other vehicles present at the time of the crash investigation. They believe the car ran off the side of the road and then hit not one, but two trees.

The man they found was unconscious. He was later identified as 39-year old Jemale Nichols of Michigan City. He was treated at the scene but his injuries were so serious, he had to be airlifted to the local hospital.

The next day, the victim was still in the hospital and there was no improvement in his condition. The man was found on the ground near the passenger side so the authorities believe he was actually a passenger in the car when it crashed. Plus, the car wasn’t registered to him.

The police believe alcohol was a factor in the crash so they brought out their special task force that investigates DUI crashes. However, they still have no idea who the driver is. They have asked the public for their help in identifying the suspect. There has been no comment from the victim or his family as of yet. Thankfully, there do not appear to be any other injuries involved.
