Woman Killed in Icy Crash in North Indianapolis

When the weather takes a turn for the worse, especially in winter, there are bound to be more accidents than usual. Even people who are used to driving in snow and sleet have a hard time navigating the roads in Indianapolis this time of year. What this means is that the police have to respond to a number of very dangerous accidents. This was the case this weekend in North Indianapolis.

A couple was driving along the Westbound lanes of 86th Street and Township Line Road last night when the driver lost control of their car. He ended up crashing into a concrete median on the highway. After he hit the median, he hit another curb and his vehicle was tossed in a pond.

Witnesses said they saw an older model Chevy SUV on 86th start to swerve. The next thing they knew, the car was sliding across the road and into the median wall. The police believe the crash could’ve been caused by bad weather. It had been raining and, due to the low temperatures, the roads were slick. However, the police are still investigating the cause of the crash.

The male driver and his female passenger were taken to the local hospital. Sadly, the man was pronounced dead at the hospital. The woman is still in the hospital and is listed as being in critical condition. There have been no further updates at this time. The identities of the victims have not yet been released.

Thankfully, no other vehicles were involved in the crash. This is a surprise, especially given the fact that the accident happened at 9:30 on a Friday night.
